Climate
Climate change is one of the most acute issues in international politics today.
Although climate change is often seen as a technical and natural science issue, the main challenges today are political and social – not least, achieving consensus on a follow-up regime to the Kyoto Protocol to limit emissions of dangerous greenhouse gases. Further, research on Russian climate policy has been in focus at NUPI.
Other central areas of research at NUPI related to climate change:
- the role of multilateral institutions such as the UN
- global governance
- the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) in climate politics.
