Who are the new populists? And how did these movements emerge?

The (re-)emergence of populism is one of the key political developments of the last decade. In this lecture, Rogers Brubaker will discuss the concept of populism and the phenomenon to which it refers. Focusing on Europe and North America, he will analyze the nature and emergence of new populist movements and in what sense it is meaningful to classify them as populist.

Rogers Brubaker is a sociologist whose work focuses on social theory, citizenship, nationalism, and the theory and politics of identity. Among his books are Citizenship and Nationhood in Germany and France (1992), Nationalism Reframed (1996) and Grounds for Difference (2015).
