Viljar Haavik

Research Assistant

Viljar Haavik is a junior research fellow in the Research Group for Peace, Conflict and Development.

Haavik has completed a master's degree in Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Oslo. His thesis is an analysis of regime change, insecurity and the proliferation of non-state armed groups in Burkina Faso. It was a part of the FRAGVENT-project. He also has a bachelor's degree in International Studies from the UiO. 

Haavik's research interests include causes of violent extremism, conflict and insecurity, and peace- and state-building. His regional focus is on West-Africa. 

He currently works on several research projects and networks: PREVEX, FRAGVENT, JIGOV-Sahel and the TaxCapDev-network
