Anni Roth Hjermann is advisor in the Research Group on Russia, Asia and International Trade, and works on Russian politics.
Hjermann holds a master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Oslo and a bachelor’s degree in Russian Studies. Hjermann’s research interests revolve around politics and security in Russia and the post-Soviet space. In particular, she is interested in questions at the intersection of international relations and political theory, especially as regards democracy and the political, and the relationship between language, reality and politics.
Hjermann’s master thesis developed a framework for analyzing how discursive depoliticization impedes democracy and contributes towards authoritarian consolidation, and examined Russia 2015-2020 in this framework.
