From Compatriots to Aliens: Russian Television Coverage of Migration
The presentation will be given by Professor Vera Tolz-Zilitinkevic from the University of Manchester.
The presentation investigates the changing nature of Russian television coverage of migration. It will be demonstrated that, since 2012, the coverage on the state channel Rossiia has been explicitly challenging the Kremlin’s position. The presentation aims to explain the reasons for this unexpected development.
The seminar is part of the ‘New Russian Nationalism’ seminar series, a series of quarterly presentations on various aspects of Russian nationalism and part of the research project ‘Nation-building, nationalism and the new “other” in today’s Russia’, a joint project between NUPI and the University of Oslo funded by the Research Council of Norway under the NORRUSS programme.
